Selling Artwork, a Commission, and my First Art Sale

Collage papers, gel medium, acrylic, torn and painted tea bag for the hair,
charcoal and Pitt pen on 5.5 x 8.5" watercolor paper
Hi Everyone!  Things have been really really busy here. The art to the right is one of several things I did this week creatively.

Also a long time family friend has asked me to make a drawing of her childhood home for a commission.  I have been hard at work on that. I will post a photo soon...after she has seen it.

And lastly I am going to participate in a community art show here in Wichita on August 18!!! This is such  an exciting opportunity because I have never shown my art in public before.  I won't lie, I am nervous.

Practicing setting up the art with one of the panels my husband made.
The tricky part about this event will be how to display my paintings on two 6' round tables.  My husband is building two tri-fold panels made from pegboard to place on each table.  The tan color of the pegboard looks okay with the art, but I may paint it black to "dress it up" more.  I am unsure yet.

I bought ten of those curly easels you see in the above photo to put some of the paintings on.  I still need to find table cloths to use...if I keep the pegboard neutral, I am thinking a black table cloth???  Decisions, decisions!

Besides all the above...day to day stuff is super busy too...seems everyone is busy these days.  Hope you are having a great week so far!  Thanks for stopping in!

♥ Lisa

  1. Good luck on your first showing! Wow, two 6' rounds is a tough set up. Sounds like you're getting a good handle on it though. The pegboards and easels are a great idea, and yes, If you keep the pegboard neutral, I'd go with a black tablecloth. Have fun with it!

  2. Congratulations!! How exciting! I wish you well at your art show!
I would go with black pegboard and black tablecloths ... Less distracting - and the colors in your paintings will really pop ... Jut my opinion :)

  6. That is wonderful! How exciting to be showing your art! I know you're nervous, but just make sure to have fun with it! Love the piece you posted... I like the set up... If it were me, I'd drape the peg board with black fabric and do the same with the tables. Of course you might have to work a bit harder to hang the art over the fabric, but it can be done...

  12. Thats such a good idea to paint the board, it will be like the paintings are floating in the night sky. I can't wait to hear about all the positive reaction you are going to get. Your paintings are so personal and draw one in on your blog, I can only imagine how wonderful it would be to be there in person!

  23. Hi Lisa,
A show and a commission!! I knew it! I just hope the inevitable success coming your way doesn't change who you are or your art. Success can do that to people. I've always felt, however, that you're so well-grounded nothing could change you. That's a good thing.
Reading about your show preparations sure takes me back to my first show. Talk about nervous! You'll do great, Lisa. Just let your personality and your paintings create a glow around your booth and enjoy it!
    Best Wishes,
    Gary.

I would go with a black backdrop for your art, both in the pegboard and on the table. Whatever you choose, it is fabulous and I wish you the excitement of the public display - you will wow them!
