A Little Bit More About the Art Room and Big Life Changes

New art room (AKA son's old room/piano studio)

Well...here it is today after lugging this old floral rug from the basement . There have been several people asking about that white carpet.  Not to worry...it's a very old carpet and is actually due for replacement.  However, I brought this rug up to warm up the room a bit....an maybe catch paint.
The dark cabinet you see in the above photo was my grandmother's old sewing machine cabinet, which is a great thing to store things in and on.

I have left the wall that my son and his friend painted because I am just too sentimental about it.  So it will stay like this for now...however it DOES NOT go with this rug!  But my thinking is that the wall and the rug are sort of odd together and a bit surprising...kind of like my art can be at times.  Ha ha!

I didn't have to buy a thing (except for a few string lights that I ordered) to put this room together.  Everything was already around the house.

This shelf used to be in the dining room where I used to paint.    I have to admit I sort of miss the art mess in the dining room a bit...isn't that crazy?  Maybe it all ties into the emotions of missing our son being around.  This is such a HUGE wave of change for us.

This is my favorite part about this new room...the view at sunset.  Makes the heart happy.

  3. The room looks so warm and comfortable. It must be a joy to paint in there. And maybe it will ease the pain of not having your son at home anymore. He looks pretty darn happy in that wedding photo!!

  4. This room is wonderful, and I really like the wall art with the rug, it's very 'eclectic'. I love your view of the sunset, too-what a nice perk.

  5. Oh Lisa! I am so excited for you! I do so enjoy having an art room all to myself, and you do so much more "art" than I do! Sometimes it's just about having a "space" to call your own and even if you just read, watch the sun set, or listen to music it can be very inspiring! Your space is lovely and has lots of natural light. Even though I'm not a "red" person, I am very sentimental and can see why you want to leave the wall. I am thinking one night when you least expect it...I see you picking up a paint brush and adding your own touch to your son's beautiful work! Enjoy!

  6. Looks like you have a lovely space to work now. The sentimental painted wall is just the thing to keep your heart anchored. At least for now. xox

  7. i missed my kitchen table mess too, when i moved upstairs after Erin Lea, moved away. so i sure don't think it's crazy at all. And i'd be hard pressed to change that wall too, and it sure looks cool. i hope you find many valuable, wonder-filled days creating here in this beautiful room! xo

  8. What a great room, Lisa! It looks like such a perfect size! I say leave the walls that way! It makes you feel comforted so why not leave it until "you're" ready to paint it...besides, it looks Artsy..LOL Thank you for sharing your sons picture with us...he's very handsome and his bride is lovely!!

  10. I love your new art space, tidy, inspiring - with your art on the walls - a cosy safe place to continue your adventures. The beauty of an art space is that things should not match, but be carefully chosen to inspire, to help with the creative process and I think you have done this perfectly in your new art room.

  11. Life certainly has changed with your son getting married hasn't it? It's so hard being a mum sometimes! :) That's a lovely room with those 2 windows, you must have had your eye on it for a while, I know I would. ;)

  15. I love your new studio. The rug looks great and even if it doesn't match the wall they don't look bad together. Thanks for sharing this! It gives me some incentive to fix mine up too. I have a whole room dedicated to my art but ended up setting my paints on the dining room table because of the lighting, high ceilings, and (ashamed to say) the tv. Thanks for the inspiration!
ps Thank you so much for your kind words on my post:)

  17. That wall is something else... I think I would keep looking up at it! :) I'm working on slowly "tricking out" my studio, it was simply too sterile! You definitely have me thinking over my space!

  20. LOVE your new studio!! It's so well lit and seems completely you. I was thinking how I like the rug with the painted wall, it reminds me of mixed media. :) Your son and his wife are a gorgeous couple and they look so happy! You've had a lot to adjust too lately, hope this soothes it a little. But yes, I understand why you miss the mess in the dining room.

  23. Just now looking at this blog entry, Lisa. Wow, KC's room.... oops, I mean your studio looks so much bigger now! ;-) I really want to come over and see your art in person. The mixed media, for example, doesn't display in a photograph what obviously occurred to make it mixed media. Being quite un-artsy (at least in this area), it took me a while to realize that you were using other things to create some of these!

Now that I have mortified myself within all these comments by your fellow artists, I will fade away again. :-) Love you!
