Art by Kiki Smith
at the Barbara Gross Galerie in Munich
Kiki Smith is an American artist mostly known for her sculptures, but it is her large drawings that I am particularly drawn to. I have not seen them in person, but my husband and I saw her large and somewhat creepy sculpture Lilith at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The sculpture's eyes look very alive and we expected it to jump right off the wall it was clinging to at any moment. What's funny to me is that our 9 1/2 hour day spent at The Met was back when my art journey was just beginning and I had no clue who Kiki Smith was at the time we saw this well-known sculpture (and many other artists for that matter).

If this artist is new to you, just Google her name and you can spend hours combing through photos, articles, videos. She's huge. I have been looking for a book of her drawings that I can actually afford, so if you stumble on one, let me know!
Now I want to go get a giant piece of paper and draw on it, don't you?
