Casa

Casa
9 x 12 inch acrylic on paper
available here

I don't always sketch my paintings out prior to starting, but this one I did.  I used two different photos...one of a woman seated on a porch and the the other of a woman standing.  I combined them to make one composition, so it was important to get them sketched out beforehand.

The kitties were added for interest.

  1. This is fantastic, Lisa! I like the title and the story that this piece tells. It's very mesmerizing the way you portray your subjects, hinting at what the piece is about, but still letting the viewer have a part in imagining the story. I love that!

  2. Following on from Katherine's comment. I think the ladies look like they are waiting for someone to come home. I love the costumes they are wearing, especially the one on the lady sitting down.

  5. Well, I love everything about this...and the kitties really "make it". I agree with the commenters above, it seems like they are waiting. In my mind...it has a "civil war" feel. Your paintings just rock---because the viewer gets to decide the story.

  10. Just catching up on some I missed. Wonderful paintings and I like this one best of all. The addition of the kittens - the open window- one sitting, one standing, all add to my enjoyment of exploring the painting and letting my imagination get involved. Always a pleasure to visit your blog.
