I love a new year.  Don't you?  It's like a breath of refreshing winter air.  A chance to make changes inside the heart and mind and even in the mundane things.  We can do this any time of year, but making desired changes seems more epic if you do it at the turn of a new year.

I spent the last three mornings rising before the sun and hitting the studio once the coffee was brewed.  It felt great to be painting again after all the holiday festivities.

All three of these were inspired by a series of photos I took last winter while walking around Riverside after a beautiful snow.  I have found I like to work from photos, but then also add bits and pieces from my imagination to them.

I hope everyone is off to a great start in 2016!

  1. Nice "snowy" work, it sure feels wintry here right now. Gray and cold. Sledding is the thing. xox

  2. Happy New Year Lisa,
The paintings are very nice, and best of all, you've put enough warmth in so I don't get chills looking at them! :) And by warmth, I mean your heart and soul more than color!
Great way to begin the New Year and it looks like it will be your best since you started painting!
    Enjoy!
    Sincerely,
    Gary.

  4. Oh, Lisa. Hard to pick a favorite this time. Love them. But if I really, really had to it would be the bottom one. Sweet and it tells me a story. Gorgeous palette.

  5. beautiful winter paintings - I do love winter! How lovely to be getting up early to create. I especially love creating when the house is quiet. and yes the new year is a perfect time to think about changes and how to make them. Best wishes for 2016

  9. I wouldn't mind winter if it always looked as inviting as your artwork does. Wonderful mixed-media!

  10. Your compositions are wonderful. I love how you lead with red
in the first two. The second painting could easily be abstract,
the composition is so strong! Great work.
