Studio Clip, Commission Work and Finding Faith

I made another studio clips video and in this one you will see a commission piece I have been working on for a friend.  She has this wonderful, very faded photo of her grandfather, grandmother, and her grandmother's two sisters jumping rope and I had fun trying to capture them.  I will post the painting later on after she has seen it.

I hope you like the video.  This is truly becoming another art form for me.

In an earlier post I mentioned painting faces for a particular project I am working on.  These are some of the attempts.  Upper left is done with acrylic and the others are in oil.  I have been calling it my "finding faith" project which will all make sense later on.

Stay tuned and thank you all for the great feedback on my last video.  I am so happy you enjoyed it.

♥ Lisa

    1. Ha ha Hilda! I do have pastels, but oh are they difficult to use. Yet every pastel artist I know says they are easy. Maybe I should try them again. I am afraid of the dust though!

      Thanks for your kind visit!

  3. Hi Lisa - great post- full of interesting stuff!
Your videos are full of good music as well as neat editing. You mentioned you have to be careful with the rights to use music so was this one by someone you know?
I found myself enejoeying watching your mark-making with the brush and am looking forward to seeing all of that painting when finished. yes...I really enjoyed it and I can see why you find the process fascinating.
Love the faces. You are changing!!!! Hugaroos!

    1. Hi Julie,

I do not know the musician personally, but I found Kevin MacLeod by googling "royalty free music". Many musicians offer their work for the sake of others to use in their projects. Most of them just ask that you give them credit somewhere in your project, and if you can't they offer an inexpensive license to purchase. It's a great gift because I did look into purchasing rights to use a particular song by Agnes Obel and learned that the cost begins at $500 to use one song for one project! And often you have to obtain the rights from both the writer and the distributor of the music.

I liked reading the reason Kevin MacLeod gives when asked why he offers his music for free:
"There are many reasons. The cost for me to share music is low, and the benefits are high. There are a lot of schools with no money, and plenty of film makers who want to have music - but can't afford to clear copyrights from the existing systems that are set up. I believe that copyright is badly broken, so I chose a license that allows me to to give away the rights I wish to surrender. We really have no hope of overturning the existing copyright situation, but we can and are creating an alternate body of works that are able to compete with them. In time, I hope that Creative Commons (and similar alternatives to standard copyright) will be common and successful enough to be the dominant choice for artists' new creative works. If you hold tightly to your creative works, they become impossible to share. If your art isn't experienced by people, it serves no purpose in society." Kevin MacLeod

I think it's a brilliant idea and I am so thankful to musician like him and Josh Woodward who do this.

      Thank you Julie! Hugaroos back!

    1. I thought the music was beautiful too. The description on the website describes it as dark, but I didn't hear it that way. Thanks so much Joan!
