This is the last painting in 2014 and I finished it this morning. Well, it's mostly finished. There are a few areas I would like to clean up, especially around the bird. I painted this based on a painting I did in my sketchbook a while back. Honestly, the whole thing was about using the gold colored acrylic paint I bought and the story unfolded from there, in my sketchbook and in the painting.
I read someone's Facebook post this morning that said they were going to push 2014 right off the edge of a cliff and it made me laugh. I wasn't laughing at this person's hardships, no, I was laughing at the thought of being able to actually push a bad year off of the edge of a cliff. Now wouldn't that feel good.
I can't say 2014 was the best year. I lost my mom this year and it still hurts. But I've had many blessings too, and for this I am so grateful.
Thank you all for everything! Here's to a blessed 2015 for all of us!
Happy New Year!
♥ Lisa
What a beautiful piece of work.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Lisa, and may 2015 bring you an abundance of health, happiness and success (in art and life). Cheers, Jenny
This is a wonderful painting, love all the details but especially the bird.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year 2014 to you and yours Lisa!
I meant 2015 ;-) !
DeleteI just love your work. Happy New Year Lisa. xxn
DeleteHappy New Year Lisa. It was a difficult one but we do have some much to be thankful for. And that gold you bought rocks!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful way to start the new year seeing such a wonderful painting lisa. I love her golden dress. May the new year be kind to you and yours.
ReplyDeleteThis one is really pretty.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of pushing the year off of a cliff also-a good image! 2014 wasn't exactly a stellar year but I am happy to be here and to keep going. Here's to 2015!
I love this painting and the use of gold paint. Oh to be Goldie's age! Years ago I painted an entire painting on a canvas I had prepared with gold leaf. It was gorgeous but applying the gold leaf took skill which I didn't have so the process was tedious but worthwhile in the end. As I am pondering painting changes/or not for 2015, I thought I too wanted to use gold, maybe even experiment with it in abstract paintings. But I don't know yet!
ReplyDeleteI love everything about this painting--the title-her hair-and the beautiful background. Happy new year to you Lisa!
ReplyDeleteAlways adore your paintings with a bird. This one has such rich colors and personally, I am rather glad you have glazed color over the gold so it doesn't jump out and hit you in the eye. Tricky stuff to get away with unless it is sheets of the gold leaf - which presents a different glow. Your instincts are always so good.
ReplyDeleteLosing your mother must have been pretty devastating, especially after taking care of her.
I remember a purple of the paintings you did of her - especially one of them. Wonderful!
Aren't you glad you did it?
Now you have what appears to be an incredibly gorgeous vintage house in a matching area so life in 2015 holds much promise. Your art can be your focus drum roll... watch out America. .. Lisa Graham is on her way to personal fulfillment and success.
I treasure being a friend.
Purple should have read couple- darn iPhone!
DeleteBeautiful, you are very talented. Happy New Year.
