I have been working in mixed media again and it has been so enjoyable to use all the different tools I have. It is like revisiting an old friend.  The textures, the colors, the glue, the glazes, the depth that is created is so different from oil painting.  Since Kansas can be so humid in the summer, I decided to go back to acrylic painting and mixed media.  These are all done on heavy watercolor paper and then adhered to a wooden board with a cradle.  The available paintings are in my Etsy shop.

I think that "Lady in Red" was inspired by this photo of a building.  I took the photo last week while out exploring the Flint Hills with a friend.  We have had so much rain, everything is glowing green right now. I love Kansas in May and June.

Around Here Lately

Simply Worth Noticing
oil on canvas 20x16 inch

It has turned so green here in Kansas.  I have been buzzing about the house and yard, planting flowers in pots and planters, and taking long walks in my neighborhood and nearby parks.

Room With Yellow Chair and Shadows
oil on canvas 18x18 inch

I was painting a lot, but that has slowed down quite a bit.  The warmer weather always beckons in both work and play.  And I am working on other projects which I will share about in the future.

Interior With Two Cats
mixed media 9x12 inch

The above painting was inspired by scenes from my own house.  We sadly had to say goodbye to one of our cats in March.  Our sweet Peet was 17.

I wish to close on a lighter note to share a short video of a hike I went on recently.  It is at Swanson Park which a nature preservation area close to my home.  I hope you enjoy it.

Until next time.

It is March 1st and as the Robins sing and the earth warms up, it feels like a good day to share some art.  All of it infused with a joyful spirit and hopeful thoughts.  I think we could all use that right now.

Sharing Ludovico

Ludovico Einaudi is an Italian pianist and composer.  I have been hearing his beautiful music coming across my Pandora stations for a while now.  I shared a couple of pieces with my son who is also a pianist and he told me that one of his students is learning to play this one called Night.  The music and this visually stunning video was mesmerizing.  The simple and multiple symbols and trees and marks were all drawn by Ludovico.

This quote is from the description on YouTube:

Says Einaudi: “I saw new frontiers – on the edge between what I knew and what I didn’t know – that I had long wanted to explore: creation myths, the periodic table, Euclid's geometry, Kandinsky’s writings, the matter of sound, and of colour, the stems of wild grass in a meadow, the shapes of the landscape. For months I wandered in a seemingly chaotic mix of images, thoughts and feelings. Then, gradually, everything came together in a dance, as if all the elements were parts of the same world, and myself within it.”
