Another Video Creation

 

Creating short and entertaining videos has been a thing I do for many years now.  I watch a lot of YouTube videos myself at night just before going to sleep.  They say the computer screen lights are not a good thing as it can disrupt your sleep, but it has never seemed to bother me.  I love to watch videos on art, interior design, but especially on quiet living, minimalism, or living with intention.  It often inspires me to take the thousands of videos and photos I take while out and about and put them to good use.  Like using them to make this little video.  It is about a two minute nature walk through one of our local parks here in Kansas.

Around Here Lately

 

Simply Worth Noticing

It has turned so green here in Kansas.  I have been buzzing about the house and yard, planting flowers in pots and planters, and taking long walks in my neighborhood and nearby parks.

I was painting a lot, but that has slowed down quite a bit.  The warmer weather always beckons in both work and play.  And I am working on other projects which I will share about in the future.

The above painting was inspired by scenes from my own house.  We sadly had to say goodbye to one of our cats in March.  Our sweet Peet was 17.

Goodbye 2021

 

2021 was a good year for me and my family.  I am grateful given the times we are in right now.  I never want to take anything for granted.  

I made my annual end of the year video and here it is with paintings infused with life.  

I wish you all a very Happy New Year and I hope 2022 is good to you.

Music and Paintings

 

My son is a pianist and he recently posted this lovely work on his YouTube channel.  I wanted to share it here.  I think it is so beautiful and one I had never heard before.  His style of playing is so expressive.

This one of my more recent paintings.  It was inspired by a vintage photograph of a group of women.  I wrote a poem to go with it, something I have enjoyed doing lately, and I also created a short narrative video as well.   You can click on it to play.

Elise had six daughters

All so close in age

She raised them to be strong women

Without a helping man's wage

The oldest had the most beauty

The second the purest of heart

The next three were closely knitted

The youngest the purest of heart

Elise was stoic, but friendly

Tired, but full of peace

And once her daughters were raised and gone

She folded her arms, closed her eyes, and embraced her sweet release

Paintings and Poetry: Mama Had Strength

This is my newest painting and it is based on an old photograph from a very large collection a friend gifted me years ago.  I pull them out from time to time to use as inspiration and this one in particular is a new favorite.  The photograph has so much power and I found myself haunted a bit by the souls reflected in the image.  I want to know more about them.  

The inspiration led me to make a "Painting and Poetry" video for my YouTube channel.  Here is the short video with a poem I wrote.  The poem is also called Mama Had Strength.  I hope you enjoy it.

Mama Had Strength 

Her eyes buried deep within their sockets

Dark circles like a trodden path from the footprints of the past

Life had hit hard, and fast, and it was cruel at times

Yet, look at her again

There is a sparkle of joy in her eye, and a slight upturn of her lips

There is power in the grip of the tissue that holds her tears

I know this power because it was witnessed by my brothers and sisters and I

Day after day, night after night

They Have Come To Bring Us Spring is an oil painting I did some time ago.  It recently went off to a new home, so I decided to take a short video of it.  It has always been a favorite.  And then a poem came out.  And then this video.  

Country Drives Are So Inspiring

 

I drove to Peck, Kansas yesterday, a small town not far.  I was on the search for colors and textures and I found so many.  Here are a few from the trip.  I always find myself wishing I could plop a blanket down in the middle of a field and just take it in for a while.  Maybe take a nap while listening to the birds and the quiet breeze.  Perhaps one of these days I will stumble onto a public place where I can do that.  

Sometimes when I go on a photo shoot, I take a lot of video and then make a video out of it all, using videos and photographs.  Most of the video was too shaky this round because it was so windy.  If you want to see the nature videos I make, you can see them on YouTube.  The link is HERE.  It is just another way I like to create.  I used to just share them on my Facebook, but I am going to start uploading them to YouTube from now on so that I can keep them in one neat place.

Making Sketchbook Videos

 I have been making short video of drawings in my sketchbook.  I started uploading these little clips to my YouTube channel.  I use my iPhone to make these and an app called Splice.  It is really fun and I enjoy creating these little clips.  

I read that Blogger is doing away with the Feedburner widget.  I have no clue how anyone can subscribe to my blog by email without this.  If anyone knows of an alternative, please let me know.

A Video Review of the Good Things in 2020

 

2020 was a life shaking year for everyone on earth. It will never be forgotten. And personally, in both my art and my life, it brought many changes. The biggest change was the move my husband and I made back to Kansas after living in Colorado for just over two years. Our landscape went from mountains to gentle rivers. It was with some reluctance that we left that majestic landscape, but we are home and in this season it feels right. In this video there is a chronological view of 2020. Highlights and day to day life throughout the year are sprinkled with the changes in seasons and landscapes, and of course my paintings are here.

Here's to a better year in 2021 for all of us.

Studio Clip: Finishing Touches on a House Sketch

I made another studio clips video. I enjoy making them and they are great practice for the Finding Faith project I've been working on for over a year now! Hard to believe! Getting ready for the 5th work in the project. We have a story, a model, a dress and a location....now we just need a date!

Well I did it!  I finally made my 2014 video.  It's a little over 3 minutes long and set to the funky music of Mackintosh Braun.  I was browsing through classical music, but it just didn't seem to go with the show as well.

Months ago, I started collecting images of chairs on my Pinterest with the intention of using them as inspiration for paintings.  However, not one of these came from those images.  They are imaginary chairs.

 And in these simple chair paintings I discovered how wonderful it is to put down acrylic color first and then paint with oil.  You get a wonderful vibrant color that comes through.  You can draw the chair by scratching into the paint, or just leave bits of color visible.  These are all listed on Etsy.

On a side note, recently I discovered Paul Taggart's YouTube channel with video after video on painting in watercolor, acrylic and oil.  If you are self-taught like me, you will really appreciate these videos.  Check them out.

This is what I spent a good portion of my weekend putting together.  It was fun to do, but not easy (for me anyways)...and it was very hard to choose the music for the video.  The choices are a bit limited on YouTube...you won't find names like The Beatles or Led Zeppelin, but I was thrilled when I found My Time by Mackintosh Braun.  It is a song I have shared before here on the blog.  I was going to choose a Chopin etude (that is what my son KC said I should have done), but it didn't have the funky thing going...which I think is what my art calls for at this point and time.  :)

I hope you like the video.  I took the time to put the titles on the pieces to make it more enjoyable for you.
