New England Clam Chowder

Last year in the month of August my husand and I took a wonderful trip to Cape Cod.  It was a getaway trip so that we could recharge ourselves and discuss what is now our reality...living in Colorado.  I felt so inspired everywhere we went on the Cape...the beach...the pier walks...the walks in town...and of course the sand dunes.  It is truly a wonderful place of rest and peace.  I felt especially connected to it because my parents lived there in the first year of their marriage in 1954 and I remember stories of Old Cape Cod told over and over by my mother.  She loved it there.  The entire trip I found myself imagining my young parents just starting their lives together...my mother a Kansas girl who had never been away from home really, and my father a handsome young man in the Air Force.  What a time it must have been for them.  And then there we were, Vic and I, middled aged, empty nest, talking about beginning our own new adventure.  

I took a multitude of photographs while there and started a painting last year with the intention of painting a series inspired by our time on the Cape.  I did finish the painting below last October, just before packing for our move. I do not paint beach scenes often, so it was a challenge to paint the ocean.  The sunsets were a sight on the Cape...so pastel and a soft light you could almost touch.

I am continuing to work on this series of Cape Cod-inspired stories and it feels so good to be settled and focused again.

Studio Clip: Finishing Touches on a House Sketch

I made another studio clips video. I enjoy making them and they are great practice for the Finding Faith project I've been working on for over a year now! Hard to believe! Getting ready for the 5th work in the project. We have a story, a model, a dress and a location....now we just need a date!

Studio Clip: Behind The Scenes From After The Rain

Hello!  It's been a while!  I hope this finds everyone well and I want to thank those of you who have found me on Instagram and Facebook.  That is where I post regularly now, and it has been a joy to stay connected with blog friends in those places.

I found that writing blog posts used to be a joy for me, but now feels like a lot of work.  I would much rather be painting...and making videos!

Which brings me to why I am posting today in the first place.  I have finally completed another studio clip and this one is all behind the scenes of the last project After The Rain in my Finding Faith series.

I am in the midst of making plans for the next one! However, we have "lost our Faith" as she is now married and living away. But who knows! She might show up again! :)

I have decided to continue with the title "Finding Faith" for this series, even if the true Faith cannot be featured. As the projects have progressed in the series, it has also become about finding faith in myself as an artist as I explore this idea of combining videography, photography and painting.

Next costume for the 4th project in Finding Faith

Studio Clip, Commission Work and Finding Faith

I made another studio clips video and in this one you will see a commission piece I have been working on for a friend.  She has this wonderful, very faded photo of her grandfather, grandmother, and her grandmother's two sisters jumping rope and I had fun trying to capture them.  I will post the painting later on after she has seen it.

I hope you like the video.  This is truly becoming another art form for me.

In an earlier post I mentioned painting faces for a particular project I am working on.  These are some of the attempts.  Upper left is done with acrylic and the others are in oil.  I have been calling it my "finding faith" project which will all make sense later on.

Studio Clips: a First Attempt at Video Making

I was on Instagram one day and saw a lovely video of  Kate Hudson playing in the snow.  It looked like an old reel-to-reel movie and it had music.  For some reason it set my creative mind on fire and I just had to figure out how to make such an old-looking video.  After some hunting, I found an app called 8 mm for the iPhone, and boy has it been fun.  

 I know many of us love seeing videos of artists doing their thing and in their spaces, so 

I thought I would start making short videos of life in my art studio to share with you once in a while. It has provided another creative outlet for me and another way to sort of shake things up.  If you know me, you know how I like change.  That's why I switch from oil, to acrylic, to mixed media from painting to painting just about.  Keeps me from getting bored.  My mother used to tell me when I was young, "bored is your middle name," and I think she was right.  

I am also working on another idea for the use of this app,  but I will share more about that later.
