detail of WIP 16 x 20 inch oil on paper |
On Tuesday I returned to Brian Hinkle's art class at Tessera Fine Art Gallery and jumped right in starting this 16 x 20 inch oil on paper. Using one of my sketches as inspiration, the figures went down quickly. There will be birds in this piece once it is all said and done.

Here is a full view of the piece. You can see another oil painting in the background which I have shown recently. That one is slow-going because I have been really indecisive about color.
Hurley |
I caught this shot the other night of my dog Hurley. He has so many facial expressions and this one is precious. Kind of pitiful, but precious.
Hurley |
Speaking of Hurley, do you remember the above photo? I posted it a while back.
5 x 7 inch painting of Hurley by Patty Musgrove |
Well a couple of days ago I was surprised and so touched to receive the above painting from Patty Musgrove with Listen to the Road. Patty paints the most beautiful animal portraits and I could not believe she would give me such a gift. Tears. Many of them. Thank you so much Patty. Life is sad right now after losing my mom and this gift is so joyful and uplifting.
Please click on the photo to view her beautiful brush strokes. She captured him perfectly.
Have a nice weekend everyone.
Dear Lisa - your painting looks like it is going to be wonderful when it is finished. Love the thought of what those birds will be like when they are introduced. So glad to see the beautiful painting from your friend. What a great gift. Have an good weekend.

Your new work is beautiful...I like the 'drawing' into the paint surface. I must
ReplyDeletetry this. So glad you like my version of sweet Hurley. xo
Thank you Patty. Yes drawing into the paint adds a lot of interest I think. It would work well for animal hair!
DeleteLOVE my painting. LOVE.
xoxo
What I see on the easel is looking beautiful and such a thoughtful gift you got, I am sure it will do you good Lisa,
ReplyDeleteLOVE your painting, Lisa.....and I thought it was so nice of your friend to paint Hurley......Very thoughtful!!
ReplyDeleteA beautiful gift just when you need it most. Nothing better:)
ReplyDeleteLisa, I love all your WIPs! A blogger once sent me a painting of my Giovanni as a puppy after I posted about losing him. I still hurt for the loss. So glad someone did the same for you. An artist's heart is a fine thing. Also so saddened to hear you lost your mom. A fate that awaits all of us, I know. You have my deepest sympathies.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much CrimsonLeaves. And your story is touching. What a special gift after losing your dog.
DeleteWe drove through a really pretty portion of Illinois just last week on our road trip to NY. So many trees and beautiful farms!
You are doing so well. What a wonderful group you have!
ReplyDeleteHi everyone,
ReplyDeletethank you for all the great comments! I really appreciate you all! Forgive me for not replying individually. The sun is out and time is short.
Have a beautiful weekend everyone!
Nice ladies in their long dresses and a sweet gift of Hurley...xox
ReplyDeleteOh my! Love this work in progress!! Looking forward to see the final painting. How very, very special to receive the painting of Hurley -- it is beautiful. Happy Painting to You, Lisa!
ReplyDeleteDear Lisa. So glad the painting of Hurley helps alleviate your pain , hugs ! Your painting in progress looks really great and love the idea of birds flying around , so creative .
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your loss. No wonder your faces in your painting look so sad, as does Hurley. But how wonderful to receive the gift from Patty! She does such nice work, I know because she sent me a small painting of my laughing dog, Sierra. Blogging friends are so generous. Take care.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your words Jan. Yes, blogging friends are generous and so supportive. Patty is a gem.
DeleteI really like your latest painting. If only I could draw and paint like that. Seems I just throw paint around on a page. BUT, I mentioned you when I signed up for Leslie's paintings. Not sure why it was so important to sign up, especially since we were supposed to give our home address.
ReplyDeleteSunday morning I saw your comment about Bradley Fair. I had completely forgotten about it, thinking it was next weekend. So I immediately called my friend Sally and she said lets go. Lets go NOW. I still had to shower, so we got there about 11:30. It was a lovely morning, but got hot later in the day. I took over 300 photos in the 3 1/2 hours or so we were there. Sally bought lots of jewelry and tried to rush me along when I looked at paintings and mixed media pieces. Did you go? Afterwards, we ate at Angela's in our neighborhood. I got home about 5:30 and crashed.
Your painting is stunning!
ReplyDeleteAnd, the gift is so touching! Something I know you will treasure forever!
Hurley is so cute!
Big Hugs to the both of you! xoxoxo
I know it's not the same, but you know, your mom is right beside you ;o)

Thank you Stacy. Hugs.
DeleteThe painting on the easel is looking like it will be a masterpiece when birds are added. So much symbolism. You are sounding upbeat and settling back into painting.
ReplyDeleteAw...sweet Hurley and what a generous and loving gift from Patty ,and then reading the comments I see she also had sent one to Sherry of Crimson Leaves. What a special spirit and understanding.
