Mixed media in 8 1/2 x 11 sketchbook |
Just a quick post to tell you all we had the best Halloween. The reason is because this is the first Halloween at our new house and our block was swamped with Trick-Or-Treaters. We were delighted because at our old house I think we had six in 16 years. I am not kidding.
There were all kinds of costumes, but these are the ones that were the most adorable and we were delighted to see so many parents out too. I think the kid with his head in a box was supposed to be a character from a video game of some sort.
The little girl in the blue wig and bright yellow rain coat probably gets the prize...her costume was just so unique.
But this kid stole my heart. He could hardly see to get up the stairs to our door...his Ninja Turtle Raphael mask was falling down over his eyes. Too cute!!!
Hurley loved all the company and watched at the door for quite a while. He finally got bored with it and went to lay down about an hour before we stopped passing out candy. The pumpkin on the porch was the first one I had carved in years. Not bad, eh?
Me at the juried show Friday night |
The juried art show I mentioned in the last post was Friday night and was truly wonderful...a great crowd! It was such a diverse show with 60 works and I enjoyed taking it all in and visiting with some of the other artists. It will be up for a month and hopefully find a new home.
And this was from today. I sat outside to eat lunch and this was on the table. It is a maple leaf if you don't recognize it. I thought the reds and greens were so beautiful, it deserved its own photo shoot. So it got one.
I hope your weekend was just as wonderful.
♥ Lisa
Very nice post with so wonderful painting !!!
ReplyDeleteHave a nice and creative week !!!
Thanks and you also!
DeleteHi Lisa,
ReplyDeleteGlad Halloween was so much fun at your new home. Seeing the creative costumes is always great fun, too.
Congratulations, again, on being selected for the show! Great photo and your joy is clearly visible on your lovely face. Best of luck on getting some icing on the cake with a sale.
About your painting...Am I seeing things, or do I detect a bit of effort on the perspective in this one? Not being a normal element in your work, I couldn't help wondering. Hope you don't mind my asking.
A maple leaf...been a long time now since we've seen one of those beauties. Thanks for giving it another day in the sun...so-to-speak. :)
Enjoy tomorrow.
Sincerely,
Gary.
Hi Gary,
Deletethank you for your very kind words and well wishes! As for your question about my efforts on perspective: I did try to convey that the parents hung back while their children approached the door and the houses in the background are across the street. I am not sure if the painting "reads" that way, but those were my intentions.
I am guessing you are not willing to trade your palm leaves for maples? Am I right? :)
Hope your week is off to a great start!
The kid with the box on his head wins my vote. Very low tech!
ReplyDeleteI miss the trick or treaters. They are so cute when they are dressed up:)
And congrats on being in the show. what a great opportunity!
Hi LIbby!
DeleteSo good of you to drop by and thank you for the comment. I think the box head boy does deserve a vote. He was low tech for sure, but to his credit he did paint the box a solid color. :)
Your painting has really captured the atmosphere of Halloween and it's great to see you are settling in to you new home.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Carol. We are enjoying this new neighborhood very much and the Halloween crowd was an extra bonus for sure.
Deleteoh, oh, oh, i love this halloween painting! and i love that you paint what you see! the ninja boy has my heart...

Lisa, this has become my new favorite blog post! Love your Halloween story, painting and photo of your doorway with your delightful pumpkin & Hurley, the curious dog. Congrats on the new home and the new show. Happy days!
ReplyDeleteHi Chris and thank you so much. I really enjoy being more loose and free when working in sketchbooks. I am doing more of it this week and it's been wonderful. Hope you've had a great week too.
DeleteExtra special post - I LOVE IT! Your paintings are wonderful and capture the fall colors and atmosphere as well as costumes. No one tells a story as well as you with paint.
ReplyDeleteSpecial seeing Hurley at the door. Ahhhh, sweet!
Hi Julie! Thank you! Hurley misses you as does Mitsou! xoxo
